We are delighted to announce the launch of the CCPT Collaboration, Co-Production and Knowledge Exchange Funding Scheme! The scheme seed corn funding for non-academic partners to propose innovative, collaborative projects that address our research challenge areas and are developed in partnership with our academic members. We are attaching the call for proposals below.

Scheme Summary

The Centre for Contemporary Political Theory at the University of Leeds is delighted to launch the CCPT Collaboration, Co-production and Knowledge Exchange Funding Scheme for 2024-25. The scheme offers seed corn funding for non-academic partners to propose innovative, collaborative projects that address our research challenge areas and are developed in partnership with our academic members.

The scheme is open to our network of non-academic partners, including activists, artists, community and civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, social movements, charities, education and faith organisations, practitioners and policymakers, and the public sector.

Proposals should outline a well-defined project/activity oriented to delivering impact, network-building, or knowledge exchange. All projects should address at least one of the Centre’s three key challenge areas: 1) climate, refugees, global health; 2) community, citizenship, democracy; 3) oppression, solidarity, resistance.

The scheme invites non-academic partners to take the initiative and contact us. We encourage applications from partners representing or serving under-represented communities and perspectives. International members are welcome to apply.

About the Centre

The Centre for Contemporary Political Theory brings together scholars, practitioners and activists working within a variety of domains and traditions for practice-oriented, ethical and critical analysis of urgent global challenges.

Our approaches to the study of political theory range from analytic and normative perspectives to Marxist, post-structural, decolonial and feminist theorising. We employ this plurality of approaches to understand, contest and critically respond to key challenges of our political coexistence. Our key challenge areas are 1) climate change, refugee crises and global health inequalities; 2) community, citizenship and democracy; and 3) intersecting oppressions, solidarity and resistance.

We are guided by a commitment to engaged scholarship and public impact. Our research is oriented to cultivating responsible democratic citizenship and to building a sustained dialogue with activists involved in multipronged struggles for freedom and justice today.

Aims and Scope

The CCPT Collaboration, Co-production and Knowledge Exchange Funding Scheme supports the Centre’s commitment to engaged scholarship and public impact. It seeks to promote opportunities for community engagement and to build collaborations between academic members and non-academic partners.

The proposed projects should be co-led, developed in collaboration between non-academic partners and CCPT academic members. Projects need to offer an achievable programme of activities that will benefit both parties, build durable relationships between non-academic partners and academic members and have the potential to develop into larger collaborations and funding bids. Academic members should be involved in the development of proposals from the start, to ensure the proposed projects and activities address CCPT’s key challenge areas. We anticipate funding proposals in the amount of 800 GBP but will consider proposals up to 1500 GBP.

Examples of projects/activities the Scheme will support:

  • Activities delivering impact from ongoing or previous CCPT research, sharing research findings among stakeholders, beneficiaries, policymakers, and the broader community in accessible, useable form.
  • The development of networks and collaborations (for example hosting significant conferences, workshops, deliberative laboratories), with the aim of generating high quality outputs or major funding applications.
  • Knowledge exchange activities, especially those dedicated to exploring innovative ways of understanding and responding to key political challenges from the perspective of and in partnership with the affected communities, organisations, and struggles.

Eligibility

  • Projects must be developed in collaboration between a non-academic partner and an academic member or a team of academic members of CCPT. Postgraduate researchers can be included in the application as team members, but the academic lead must be a member of the University of Leeds staff for the duration of the project.
  • Projects must relate to at least one of the Centre’s challenge areas.

Budget

All proposals should include a detailed breakdown of costs. When planning your project budget, please follow the University of Leeds financial guidelines. Permissible costs include travel and accommodation costs, event venue hire, project-specific communications costs, and honoraria. Please note that payment for the lead applicant or academic collaborators’ time is NOT eligible for funding.

Key dates

  • Applicants should submit their proposals by 31 May 2024.
  • Applicants will be notified of the outcome in June 2024.
  • Funded projects can commence from 1 August 2024.
  • Projects must be completed, and funds spent by 31 July 2025.
  • Successful applicants will have to complete a short project report detailing their achievements and next steps no later than one month after the project end date or by 31 August 2025 at the latest.
